Intertwined Roots
On October 21, 2016, J got down on one knee--in a tree!  Best proposal ever!  So naturally, instead of decorating our wedding venue with flowers, we used trees (they were peach trees with tiny green peaches on them).

During the wedding ceremony, our attendants read some special verses about trees:

"Their roots spread out down under the ground, joining one with the other.
So, from the top in the sky to the heart in the earth, the two are joined together.
Through days when the sun is bright and warm and the winds are temperamental.
When a laughing breeze rustles the leaves, or when the rain is soft and gentle.
Through days when the clouds are dark and gray and cold and fierce the weather,
the two stand firm and face the storms because they stand together.”
- Together by Jo Lynne Wood

“...Work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being “in love”…Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away…Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.” - Louis de Bernieres

Continuing the theme, this year for Valentine's Day, I wrote a poem for the love of my life...

Roots

I’ve fallen in love with our intertwined roots;
I've fallen in love with our branches and fruits.
Though winds of hard times may buffet and blow,
we may be assaulted by rain or by snow,
whatever may come, My Love, you must know
my heart will forever belong just to you.
